Hey Laurie
I'm the Doug from the above comment (thanks John!).
Your experience mirrors ours.
The more you put into Twitter, the more you get back.
The key is putting in the right amount of time without over-doing it!
Anyway, I enjoyed the post.

Hey Laurie,

I just read a great article on Biznik recently on using Twitter. The author, Doug Kessler, is big into Social Media Marketing and his article nicely compliments your post. I hope you don't mind, I linked a comment from there to here so that people could have the benefit of reading this great post. His article is here:

Great thoughts! I had no idea the networking possibilities when I opened my twitter account last November. At first, it didn't work, but now I seem to have found a "flow." Checking in periodically, and using my blog, twitter and other accounts to keep in the "loop".

I'm new to blogging and Twitter, and am so glad to see this post. When I talk about the professional benefits of Internet social media to colleagues and friends, I still get a lot of blank looks!
